Yes, the social aspect is the hardest part, especially when you work a regular 9-5 and need to be at the office. I have the luxury of working from home and setting my own hours. Interestingly I started polyphasic sleeping myself because of social reasons :D. When I moved in with my partner I faced the dilemma that I am a morning person and she likes to sleep long and stay up until midnight. So, instead of adjusting to her late-rising habit, I shortened my sleep during the night and added in 2 naps on most days. Works well on most days :)
