Thanks for the elaborate reply Steven. I agree with much of what you say, especially about MD's learning experiences. And yes, I know some personally as I happen to have studied with them ;)

I found this theory about toxins playing a much bigger role than any other researchers before suggested to be intriguing, however. Why? Because I have been studying nutrition for over 15yrs now, have been active in various "communities" etc. and have seen people NOT lose weight or keto and even carnivore diets. The same pattern that I saw before in the vegan communities - some people lose weight and feel it's the answer for everyone...but you always have people for whom it's not so "simple."

When I changed to a ZC diet in 2012 for example (way before all meat diets were as "popular" as they are today) I initially gained a lot of body fat. I also remember women who were overweight, had nothing but meat and water and still didn't lose weight / body fat.

I am deeply grateful for the low-carb & keto positive doctors (for lack of better word :)) and their work b/c this diet has helped me with many health issues. I think diet is only one piece of the puzzle though when it comes to the obesity problem of "modern" societies.
