Nice article. I have done a few looped races and enjoyed all of them (24 hours flat and on a motocross track, 6 hours, 50 K) but I didn't like the BYU format. The forced break after each loop somehow feels odd to me and I couldn't find a good rhythm for myself. Maybe I will try again one day but for now I enjoy the "normal" timed looped races and point to point races much, much more.
