I find mindset is also paramount. There is a big difference if I go into a session with the word "workout" in mind or "training session". I liked an article I read from Pavel Tsatsouline, where he explained why there is no equivalent word in Russian for "working out". The goal is not to work yourself out / exhaust yourself but rather to practice a skill when you go into a session. This mindset shift was huge for me. It made both strength training and running a much more sustainable practice for me.
