It was a process, I think. I have had many different jobs so far and moved up the career ladder in the process as well. This gave me perspective and the self-knowledge to know which "kind of work" I liked (e.g. working with people vs working in tech or with numbers only, teaching people vs. doing only research etc.). And I decided I wanted a fairly simple job that leaves me enough mental energy to build my business. That's why staying in my old job wasn't an option - too much pressure and responsibility. I tried to move departments in my company to have less responsibility, but the CEO wouldn't let me b/c he thought they needed me too much in my (Finance) dept. - well now they have nothing from me :D. I think people need to get comfortable with moving down the career ladder if that's what they need to do to free up time and energy.
