I love your article. However, this advice is a serious hope destroyer in my opinion. It is very difficult if not impossible for many people to save 2-3 years of income plus initial investment (as you say). Until having this much saved up you might just as well "live in the matrix" until you are close to retirement age 60. I like these kinds of articles but again and again, they are written by people who “ditched their 6-figure-jobs”. Not to sound mean, but I think it’s “easy” to throw around “look at me I did it” advice when a 6-figure salary is your starting point.
