I had a similar experience. I cited a book and put something from it in quotes. Funny how the editor then thought ALL of my article was just copied from the book. But this certain pub has terrible editors imo. They also asked me to "keep one heading style because it's easier for the readers" when it was obvious that I was using subheadings (2 levels).
