Good for you! I am in a similar position. Not as dramatic as yours, but working overtime and on weekends is somehow expected. Of course I never got compensated for it. Micromanaging, ditto...I think a lot has to do with leadership skills. Your former boss clearly lacked those. Hope you found a better place after that :)
