Dr. Drosten, who is one of the co-discoverers of the SARS-CoV (and the head of the institute of virology of the Charite in Berlin) recently cautioned against false conclusions from this study, as the researchers failed to explain how much of a virus containing substance was applied to the surfaces. Apparently a lot depends on the amount of virus present on the surface and the study doesn’t seem to reveal enough information on how / how much of the virus was applied. Not to say that it’s incorrect information or that it’s not a serious threat but we need to keep in mind that not every scientific study reveals “truths” applicable in “real life”. Of course still don’t touch your face after touching surfaces that might be contaminated etc. but it might be that in real life scenarios the virus doesn’t survive as long as found in this study.
